If this year hasn’t been as good as you had hoped, consider the following three things:
Focus on Long-Term Goals: The goal is to have a great career, not just a great year. Zoom your focus out to a longer period and make an assessment of that. What do you see? Then pull your focus up and look more broadly across everything you have going on. What patterns do you see, and what adjustments do you need to make right now?
Recognize Your Wins: You may be winning and just not know it. If you’re able to hold your business at a level greater than the market contraction, you are winning. Therefore, be sure to measure your progress in relation to your local market stats. For example, if the market is down 30% and your business is down 10%, you have a 20% gain. Ground your emotions in the stats.
Identify Missing Relationships: If you’re feeling stuck, you might be missing a key relationship. You are likely doing everything you can on your own, which means growth and progress will come from adding a relationship or two. This doesn’t necessarily need to be an employee; it could be a coach, mentor, or a key employee to help you move things forward. Who are you missing in your life, and how are you going to change that by the end of the year?
It's important to remember that success is a marathon, not a sprint. By shifting your perspective to a longer-term view, acknowledging your real progress, and fostering essential relationships, you can navigate the ups and downs more effectively. Take the time to reassess, realign, and reconnect with your goals and support network. With these strategies in place, you'll be better equipped to turn this year around and set the foundation for continued success in the future.
