How to Keep More Money as a Realtor
Making a lot of money as a Realtor and keeping real money are two different things.
At Alchemy of Money, we provide bookkeeping and tax services to hundreds of real estate businesses across the US. After working that closely with agents’ books, I’ve noticed patterns that separate the ones making progress from the ones who stay stuck. Here are the three that stand out.
1. Show Up for Your Numbers Every Week
The more time you spend with your finances, the better you get at managing them. It’s a simple idea that most of us avoid. It won’t be as entertaining as your favorite show, but financial stability feels great.
Try this: Put a recurring 30-minute “money meeting” on your calendar each week. Check your account balances, review and categorize your transactions, and look at how much you’ve set aside for taxes. Our free Stay Ahead Checklist is a great resource to organize your to-do list.
2. Fix the Small Leaks
It’s the tiny details that throw off a financial plan, like that one credit card you keep using for “extras.” A few personal charges on a business card might seem harmless, but they make your books harder to trust and your profit harder to see.
The good news is that small fixes give you a big sense of control, and checking off those little to-dos is surprisingly satisfying.
Try this: Keep one business bank account and one business credit card, and don’t put anything else on them. Make it a rule, not a “when I remember.”
3. Practice Patience
Ah, the joys of patience. Building new financial habits and systems takes time, and that’s okay. One month of clean books won’t change your life. Twelve months of them gives you accurate data to plan your taxes, spot trends in your business, and make confident decisions about investing.
Take it one step at a time. Consistency beats intensity.
