Are you playing small?

Over the past weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting The Greenbrier Resort, nestled in the picturesque mountains of West Virginia, approximately 4 hours southwest of Washington DC. This extraordinary property boasts a rich history, notably serving as the site of a massive underground bunker used as an emergency shelter for Congress during the Cold War.

Designed by the renowned Dorothy Draper, The Greenbrier takes you on a delightful journey back in time, meticulously preserving the charm and style of the 1930s. It's a place that may seem over the top at first glance, but you can't help but appreciate its uniqueness. One fascinating fact about Ms. Draper is her advice in the "Ask Dorothy Draper" column of the 1930s, where she suggested, "Take that red and paint your front door with it." Her advice has since been followed by countless people!

Dorothy Draper herself lived a life of grandeur and audacity, becoming the highest-paid female designer of her era. Her influence rippled across the design industry, and even today, more than 50 years after her passing, her impact continues to be felt.

The experience at The Greenbrier and learning about Dorothy Draper's legacy serve as a powerful reminder that playing small does not serve the world. Embracing a big and bold approach to life can lead us to achieve remarkable things and leave a lasting impression on the world around us.
